Bluey to Hit the Big Screen: Disney and BBC Studios Announce First Animated Feature Film

The beloved Australian children's character, Bluey, is set to make her big-screen debut. A feature film, written and directed by creator Joe Brumm, is scheduled for a 2027 release. Produced in Queensland by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company, the project is expected to generate over 130 local jobs and contribute approximately $35 million to Queensland's economy.

In an exciting announcement for fans of Bluey, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company revealed today their plans for the first-ever animated feature film based on the beloved Emmy® and BAFTA Award-winning series. Bluey, which has captivated audiences worldwide and claimed the title of 2024’s No. 1 series on streaming platforms, will make its cinematic debut in 2027 under the Disney banner. The film will be available to stream on Disney+ after its global theatrical release.

The movie, written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, is a Ludo Studio production in collaboration with BBC Studios. It promises to deliver the same charm, humor, and heart that have made the television series a global phenomenon. Fans can look forward to continuing the adventures of Bluey, the lovable and energetic blue heeler, along with her Mum, Dad, and little sister, Bingo.

The film’s production brings together a talented team, including:

• Amber Naismith (Happy Feet, The Lego Movie) as producer
• Richard Jeffery (Bluey Series 1-3) as co-director
• Joff Bush, returning as composer for the film’s music
• Vocal talents Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, reprising their roles as Chilli and Bandit Heeler

Post-production funding will be provided by the Australian government, with additional support from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital, and Visual Effects Incentive.

Disney will release the Bluey movie in theaters worldwide, followed by streaming on Disney+. In Australia, the film will also air on ABC iView and ABC Kids post-theatrical release.
